On Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017 Mt. Nebo Jr. High School held it's first ever Mr. and Miss Panther Pageant.  This was created by Mr. White's 3rd term discovery class.  The students watched several different types of pageants and together created their own.  Students school wide were invited to participate.  Students who participated in this pageant had to:  create five posters about themselves and put them up around the school; prepare an slide show about themselves; perform a two minute lip-sync; walk the red carpet in their most creative sleep wear; perform a talent; walk the red carpet in formal wear; give a brief public speech about service they've performed this past school year; and finishing up with a questions and answers for each contestant.  Students in the discovery class created the decorations and Mr. White's awesome 7th grade English class students decorated.  Hostess' Sage Seimer and Alessa Carpintier led the evening well.  We had an amazing audience of supportive family and students, and the competitors did a fine job showing us just how amazing they each are!  MNJHS Stage Crew as well as students in the discovery class worked the technical aspects of the evening and Lexie Chlarson and Sabrina McKnight performed a beautiful dance duet while the judges made their decisions.  Our two special guest judges, who have been in the pageantry world for years (Lori Christensen and Kristen Christensen), did a fantastic job judging for us!  Our runner ups were:  Rebecca Cook, Candace Holdaway, Melissa Peterson for Miss Panther 2017; and Tapu Anesi was the runner up for Mr. Panther 2017.  This year's Miss Panther 2017 is Hanna Bibler.  This year's Mr. Panther 2017 is Gabriel Moyer.  Congratulations on a wonderful evening!

It's that time of year again! For one day only the 7th graders at Mt Nebo become residents of Reality Town, where their grades decide their salary and they get to see what it's like paying bills, writing checks, and most other responsibilities they will have as adults. A big thank you to Wells Fargo for their donations and all our parent and other volunteers that came out to help! We couldn't do it with out you all.

Congratulations to our fabulous MNJHS LIA (Latinos In Action) who took Second Place Overall with their group dance performance today!  Jose Hernandez was the Keynote seaker.  He is the first Latino NASA Astronaut.   Hernández was assigned to the crew of Space Shuttle mission STS-128.  Our students attended workshops where they listened to motivational speakers.  The purpose was to inspire them to be successful in life by getting a good education. Students were encouraged to embrace their culture, their roots and their bilingualism skills.  We are so proud of the amazing things our LIA students do to support not only our school, but the community as well. From tutoring elementary students each week, to Teacher Appreciation Week our LIA is the best!

Just wanted to update you on our students who competed at state last week. We had Bailey Franson, Maddie DeHart, Eli Evans, Tait Ising, Matt Lacey, Daycee Drury, and Jourdyn Cardon competing in the Conduct of Chapter Meetings event. This event requires them to know the FFA opening and closing ceremonies, and use parliamentary procedure to discuss a main topic being planned as if they are an FFA officer team.

I am pleased to announce they placed 4th at state! They are very driven to return next year to place first. I am very proud of this group. Parliamentary procedure is very complex and way above their learning level, but they understand it and competed very close with the other teams. I am very impressed with the quality of our students.
