Congratulations Mr. Craig
Here is what one of his fellow teachers wrote about Mr. Craig.
In 2022, veteran teacher Clay Craig made the bold move from elementary to Mt. Nebo Middle. At first, I didn’t know him well, but every time I saw him, he lifted my spirits. There’s something about the way he talks to you that makes you feel truly seen and valued. Whenever I passed him in the hall or faculty room, he would stop, look me in the eye, and sincerely ask how I was doing—like nothing else mattered in that moment.
As I watched him interact with students, I realized this wasn’t just how he treated colleagues—it’s how he treats everyone. Whether it's his students, fellow teachers, or anyone he meets, Clay has a way of making people feel important and cared for. His classroom isn’t just a place of learning; it’s a place where students feel safe, heard, and loved.
Now that he’s across the hall from me, I see it even more. Before he can even unlock his door in the morning, students are already gathered around, eager to talk to him. Between classes, he’s surrounded by kids until the last second before the bell. And if a student looks down, Clay notices—offering a hand on the shoulder, a few words of encouragement, and a reminder that they matter.
One day, I asked him how he does it. He told me that school was hard for him growing up, and he wanted to make sure his students have a better experience than he did. That’s who Clay is—someone who turns his struggles into a gift for others. He reminds us all what truly matters in education: loving and lifting those around us.
Clay, you are an inspiration to both students and staff. Thank you for showing us the power of genuine kindness.
