Red Ribbon week is this week!

Some of our activities are

Monday- Don't Sleep through Your Life! Wear PJ's-- Students were given their own "red ribbon" a wrist band

Tuesday- from Head to Toe We are Drug Free- Crazy Hair & Sock Day

Wednesday- Superhero's don’t do Drugs- Dress Like a Superhero Day

Thursday- Unite to Fight Against Drugs- Wear RED! - There will be a drug free pledge students can sign at lunch

Friday- Don't Be Afraid to Say NO! To Drugs!- Hats & Halloween 

Each day students who are wearing their red ribbon, or the theme for the day will be recognized-

 Thanks for your support and JUST SAY NO to drugs and alcohol 

Enrique (Kiki) Camarena was a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent who was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. When he decided to join the US Drug Enforcement Administration, his mother tried to talk him out of it. "I'm only one person", he told her, "but I want to make a difference."

On Feb. 7, 1985, the 37-year-old Camarena left his office to meet his wife for lunch. Five men appeared at the agent's side and shoved him in a car. One month later, Camarena's body was found. He had been tortured to death.

In honor of Camarena's memory and his battle against illegal drugs, friends and neighbors began to wear red badges of satin. Parents, sick of the destruction of alcohol and other drugs, had begun forming coalitions. Some of these new coalitions took Camarena as their model and embraced his belief that one person can make a difference. These coalitions also adopted the symbol of Camarena's memory, the red ribbon.

The Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. 

Congratulations to our golf team for taking 4th at district. They missed third place by one point. The district golf team consisted of Jarrett Christensen, Wyatt Mecham, B.J. Iverson and Zach Nielson. Also, we want to congratulate the first place in the entire district--Jarrett Christensen!!!

We are really proud of Trevor Wilcox who has completed his Eagle project for MNJHS. He and his volunteers planted three new trees by the tennis court to provide shade for those that watch our students compete. He also completed benches with the MNJHS logo that will be placed in between the tennis courts for players to use. We appreciate all of his hard work.

The Mayor’s Award recognition was presented to three outstanding students in Payson last week. Accompanied by family and supported by school staff, Kya Heimuli, Merrell Morley, and Melanie Ward each were honored for their academic and social achievements at the October 7 Payson City Council meeting.

The HOPE Squad Mission Statement is To reduce youth suicide, self harm, and bullying through education, training, and peer-to-peer intervention.

HOPE Squad Goals 1. Increase the knowledge of warnings signs. 2. Create positive relationships among student peers and faculty. 3. Break the code of silence – train students not to keep deadly secrets. 4. Raise awareness and acceptance for students to seek help from a trusted adult. 5. Reduce self-destructive behavior and reduce youth suicide, self harm, and bullying. 6. Educate students and parents about community mental health resources.
