Mt. Nebo Middle School has quite the variety of after school clubs for students to participate in. Many students enjoy staying after school to participate and have some fun. Our teachers are rock stars for putting these clubs together to provide students all sorts of opportunities to learn new things. For this week, we are going to highlight our ping pong and accelerated math club. Huge thank you to Mrs. Fordiani for leading ping pong club, and Mrs. Luckau for leading our accelerated math club.

Step Family Education Information

Smart Steps Flyer

Did you know that one in three children currently live in a stepfamily? This includes many of the children within the Nebo school district. Utah State University's "Healthy Relationships Utah" has developed a program specifically for this underserved population and we'd love your help spreading the word. Smart Steps is a free, research-based curriculum that parents can attend virtually or in-person.

Throughout this course, facilitators teach evidence-based strategies on increasing family unity, empathy led discipline, family finances, strengthening the couple relationship, healthy co-parenting, and stress management. Stepfamilies face unique challenges but we're here to help.

Many schools have connected their families to this great resource by adding our virtual flier to their monthly newsletter, posting it on each school's website, or through announcement systems such as Peachjar. Would it be possible for you to do that for the families you serve? If so, let me know and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have moving forward.

Thank you for the work you do every day for the kids in your care.

Our 6th grade science classes have been studying the planets in our Solar System. To apply their understanding from what they have learned, students made travel brochures for the planets.

Kiley Smith, Alexa Cowan, and Luci Alexander were awarded full sized Milky Way candy bars for their amazing planet travel brochures in Mrs. Fordiani’s 6th grade science class. Their work was “out of this world!”

We successfully pulled off our first of 3 field trip rotations this school year!

On Tuesday, Oct. 26th, our 7th graders were divided up by their pods and went on a field trip. One group went to the Topaz Internment Camp and Museum out in Delta. Another group visited the Utah State Capitol, and the third group enjoyed a movie at Stadium Cinemas and then worked on a service project where they cleaned up the community elementary schools and wrote thank you letters to our veterans.

On Wednesday, Oct. 27th, our 6th graders had their first of 3 field trip days. We had a group go out to USU Eastern in Price to visit their prehistoric museum and tour the campus. Another group visited the Clark Planetarium and then the third group enjoyed the movie and service project.

We had a lot of fun and learned many new things! Our students represented Mt. Nebo extremely well! Thank you to all of our parent chaperones who helped us out. We are already looking forward and excited for our next field trip rotation dates coming up in January.

Nebo School District Provides New Mental Wellness Resource for Parents

As the pandemic’s unseen costs begin to unfold on the mental health front, some wonder how school children will be impacted. Despite the massive challenge we face, there are growing resources to help families who are struggling.

Virtual Family Mental Health Night – Talk to a Therapist

Nebo School District is partnering with The Cook Center for Human Connection to host a free virtual Family Mental Health night on November 3, 2021 at 6:00 PM. Participants will hear from a leading clinical psychologist, be able to ask questions, and learn about free resources available.

Register now by clicking here: https://CookCenter.info/NeboNov3

If you miss this event or can’t make it live, check out https://ParentGuidance.org where you can access on-demand virtual courses, professional support, and a safe community for parents to learn how to support their children and get answers to mental health questions.  There are courses on anxiety, depression, self-worth, grief and loss, suicidal ideation and other mental health concerns. All courses are created by therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists and other certified mental health practitioners. There is even a portal where you can “Ask a Therapist” your tough questions, as well as see questions and answers from other parents.

The Cook Center for Human Connection has made these resources available to help increase hope in a time of continuing uncertainty and growing mental health concern. There are good people in your community working to provide solutions and help for those who are struggling. If you or anyone you know is in a mental health emergency, reach out immediately to the suicide prevention lifeline here: 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or text HOME to 741741.
