Author speaking to students

Author Lance Conrad recently visited both our 6th and 7th grade students. He shared with the students the story of how he became an author and developed his love of writing. Students enjoyed hearing him talk about his series of books and the storyline that happens throughout each book in the series.

STEM Newspaper Tower Challenge

STEM students showing their newspaper tower

Our STEM classes have been taking on the Newspaper Tower Challenge. Students work in teams of three to build the tallest tower that will hold a popcorn packet on the top.  They are only allowed one meter of tape and 6 pieces of Newspaper print. So far the team that is pictured has the tallest tower at 233 cm tall!  Students have made lots of mistakes, and in the process have learned that the weakest points are always at the joints and the base. Mrs. Bufton and Mrs. Goates do a fantastic job at providing students the opportunity to use the engineering process to tackle difficult tasks.

Our Mt. Nebo Band program recently held a Fall concert for family and friends. Mrs. Franco's 1st and 7th period classes were involved. The students were all dressed sharp and they played fantastic! They have been learning how to play music in harmony, and they were excited to showcase their efforts. It's great to see the hard work and practice paying off! We are looking forward to more performances happening throughout the year.

Students during Netsmartz assembly

We had the privilege of having Cole Parkinson from Netsmartz come and talk to all of our 6th and 7th grade students. Topics that were discussed during the assembly were recognizing the need to find balance between important things in life and technology, being smart with things we say and do online through social media applications, and the importance of reporting unsafe situations. It was a great message to be shared and reminded of. Thank you students for your respect given to our guest during our assembly! Remember to be kind!
