Dear Parents,

The best way to order school lunch and/or breakfast for students who are not at school is to fill out a survey each day for each student.  This includes kindergarten and preschool students as well as remote learning students of all grades.   You will need to order before 9 a.m. each morning. Meals are only provided on scheduled school days. For special circumstances, you can still call the school to place your order.

This would also be the method of ordering breakfast and lunch if your student is required to stay home for quarantine or for other COVID-19 related schedule adjustments or closures.

To place your order, please go to School Breakfast & Lunch Order for Mt. Nebo Middle School which can also be found under "School Information" on our website.

By way of reminder, meals can be picked up in the front office between 10:30 AM and 11 AM each morning.

We hope this makes the process easier for all involved. Please contact the school if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Mt. Nebo Middle School Administration

Estimados padres:

Atentamente,

 Mt. Nebo Middle School Administration

Mt. Nebo Honors Patriot Day

Submitted by khristen.massic on

Today, many of our teachers have planned special lessons in order to honor and remember Patriot Day--9/11. Mrs. Barker's English language arts students read accounts from middle school and high school students who were living in New York City during 9/11. Mrs. Reber, our librarian, did some special book talks today which she shared on Instagram stories and also with Mr. McFarland's classes. Students in Ms. Van Nosdol's social studies classes also learned about the significance of the event in our country. Other discussions and presentations occurred in many other classes throughout the school. Be sure to talk to your student to have them reflect on what they learned and share your own experiences.

This year is certainly like no other as we have needed to implement additional safety measures because of the pandemic. Mrs. Wettstein teaches physical education which has many new restrictions, such as a limit to 20 students in the locker room at once. She created a system with magnets and stickers where students can visually see how many students are in the locker room without having to enter. Mrs. Jacobson teaches choir where masks and face shields are worn. Since each student was given a face shield, she had the students use stickers and markers to show their personalities and make wearing the shields more fun. Other teachers have created routines for cleaning and disinfecting by using attention-getting phrases or fun automatic timers. While the new additions have taken some getting used to, we are proud of how our teachers have accepted the challenge and used their creative genius to help our students continue to be successful.

Pods and Together We Climb

Has your student talked to you about being in a "pod?" Perhaps they've mentioned a mountain they are learning about like Kilimanjaro or Denali? One of the features of the middle school is that students are assigned to a "pod" (or cohort) of students. Here's an excerpt from our Pod Vision:

"Teachers of Science, Mathematics, and Language Arts will be organized into teams called pods. Each team of teachers will have two pods, a morning pod, and an afternoon pod. Students will be assigned to each pod and rotate through the three classes in a cohort of the same students. Each pod will have roughly 90 students split into three teams of 30.

"The pod system is set up to provide students with a home-base, or community of students, as well as a core of teachers to supervise and work closely with these students. This is the first time for our entire school to be in Middle School. Everyone is new, and everyone is learning a secondary school model (class changes, lockers, lots of teachers, etc.). Within the pod, teachers may explicitly teach some organizational skills, communication skills, and general study skills.

"Teachers should design activities to promote a sense of community, togetherness, and kindness within their pods. Teachers should encourage a feeling of “team” within the pod where no one is left out. Students will connect with members of the pod as friends and teammates. A sense that everyone is known and belongs should be a priority in the pod. Pod teachers should create time to make sure these priorities are accomplished either in-class time or during reteach/enrichment. The pod is for kids!"

With the pods in mind, and the fact that our school is named after a mountain, we decided that our theme or mantra would be "Together We Climb" and that each pod would be named after a significant mountain--most are part of the 7 Summits.

In the photo attached, 7th graders in the “Aconcagua” Pod weighed in on their experience as middle schoolers so far by charting their “Peaks” and “Pits”  of the first week of school.
