Dear Parent and Student of Mt. Nebo Middle School,
We are excited to welcome you to Mt. Nebo Middle School. The opening of the middle school has been an amazing adventure. The building is almost complete, and final preparations are being made for you to come. Teachers have also been training and preparing to begin the new school year. The well being of our students and staff is our highest priority. Following state, and district guidelines, our goal is to provide for all stakeholders a safe, effective learning environment. We have truly missed you, and want you to know that we are here to help you in any way we can.
As you plan for the upcoming year, here are some important dates to remember:
Registration - Going on now, please try and register by July 30th.
- August 3: Registered students schedules are visible on Infinite Campus
- August 3 - 5: Walk-in- Registration and Fee Waiver applications
- August 3 - 5: Counselors return to school (Parents who requested “Online Learning” should schedule an appt with counselors) Class changes can also be requested if needed at this time. Link to schedule with counselors:
- August 13: Teachers return to school
- August 17: School Open House 1- 5 PM for parents and students. An email will be sent with times to attend by last names to help with social distancing and crowds. Face coverings should be worn.
- August 19: 1st day of school for students.
As a leadership team, (made up of administration, teachers, and secretarial staff) we have reviewed carefully the school reopening plan set out by Nebo School District. Over the past several days, our review of these guidelines has aided us in making the following school-specific decisions outlined in the document below. Please review them, and let us know what questions you may have.

Mt. Nebo Middle School Fall 2020 Covid Information
This document is meant to provide school-specific guidelines for the parents and students of Mt. Nebo Middle School as we reopen school in a few weeks. It will be updated as new information, and guidelines may adjust with the pandemic. Specific class information can be found on the links at the bottom of this document. General district information and guidelines will be followed and can be found on the district website. Here are links to those documents for reference:
Classroom Instruction:
- Each teacher will use as needed the learning management system called “Canvas.” Many helpful videos and guides will be available for parents as needed on the website. Using Canvas allows students who may miss for health reasons the ability to stay current in the class. It also allows teachers and students to limit paper exchanges by providing a digital platform. Teachers, students, and parents will have the help they need to navigate Canvas.
- If books like a textbook, novel, etc. are used by multiple classes during a school day, materials will be sanitized between use. Parents wanting to buy their own copies of novels or books may do so if desired.
- In order to minimize the sharing of any materials the following is a list of helpful materials, your student may want to bring to school. We will have extra supplies for students who need them. Please click on the link below for a recommended school supply list.
Classroom Set-Up Protocols:
- Desk and student work stations will be spaced apart as much as possible.
- Students will face forward, plexiglass barriers will be used in classrooms where there are 2 students to a table and no desks are present.
- Workstation cleaning (desks and tables) will be done at the beginning and end of each class.
- Electric Pencil Sharpeners will be in each classroom.
Chromebooks:
- A Chromebook will be checked out to each individual student during the first week of school. (much like a library book)
- This Chromebook will be for the student to use during the school day and at home for any school-related needs.
- Parents and students should charge the Chromebook each night.
- Chromebooks should be brought to school each day.
- Students are responsible for the Chromebook.
Face Coverings:
- Face coverings will be used by staff and students when social distancing is not possible.
- Approved face coverings include: facemasks, clear face shields, and neck gators.
- Face coverings must be cleaned at home daily.
- Parents are encouraged to provide their students with a face covering that is comfortable for their student.
- To help you, the school will provide each student with 2 face masks. These have our logo, and are washable and reusable. These will be provided at the open house on August 17th.
- Face Shields have also been purchased for choir, and drama students.
Lockers:
- Lockers will be assigned to students. Students should not share lockers.
- Students are also allowed to use a backpack whenever needed. In many cases, lockers may not be needed for student use.
- Lockers will be assigned to students near their POD classrooms.
Lunch:
- In order to space out students during lunch we will open up additional areas for students to eat. These will include the lunchroom, an outside area (encouraged) the stage, and gym on days with inclement weather.
- There will be signage helping students identify flow patterns as well as seating guidelines.
- Students will also be excused from class on a staggered schedule so lunch lines are spaced out.
Office Protocols:
- Excusing students should be done over the phone when possible. Parents wishing to check-out a student early should call the office ahead of time.
- Students arriving tardy to school should be called in by the parent for excusal.
- Parents coming into the building should use the marked entry/exit office doors.
- Parents will be asked to wait in the foyer rather than the office for student pick-ups.
Other Physical Distancing Protocols:
- Signs and arrows will be placed throughout the school to help traffic flow during class breaks.
- Students will be excused by grade to rotate classes
- Designated entrance and exits will be used in classrooms when possible.
- For at least the first term, we will not be holding any large gatherings. This includes assemblies.
- We will also not be holding recess or reteach/enrich time due to the shortened daily schedule. (Please see district email dated 7/28/20)
- Lunch has been extended by 5 minutes to allow for staggered lines and an informal recess times in the day.
Sanitation:
- Classrooms will be sanitized each night, the district has purchased a “fogging” machine which will be done in each classroom at the end of each school day.
- Hand sanitizing stations will be installed near the doorway of each classroom.
- Frequent cleaning and sanitizing of restrooms will be done, and other high traffic areas.
- Bottle filler machines will be installed at drinking fountains.

Instrucción en la Clase,
- Cada maestro usará, según sea necesario, el sistema de gestión del aprendizaje llamado "Canvas". Protocolos de configuración de la Clase:
- Las estaciones de escritorio y de trabajo de los estudiantes estarán lo más separadas posible.
- Los estudiantes se enfrentarán hacia adelante, se usarán barreras de plexiglás en las aulas donde hay 2 estudiantes en una mesa y no hay escritorios presentes.
- La limpieza de la estación de trabajo (escritorios y mesas) se realizará al principio y al final de cada clase.
- Sacapuntas eléctricos estarán en cada salón de clases.
Chromebooks:
- Se sacará un chromebook a cada alumno durante la primera semana de clases. (muy parecido a un libro de la biblioteca)
- Este Chromebook será para que el estudiante lo use durante el día escolar y en casa para cualquier necesidad relacionada con la escuela.
- Los padres y los estudiantes deben cargar el Chromebook cada noche.
- Las Chromebooks se deben traer a la escuela todos los días.
- Los estudiantes son responsables del chromebook.
Revestimientos faciales:
- El personal y los estudiantes usarán coberturas faciales cuando no sea posible el distanciamiento social.
- Los revestimientos faciales aprobados incluyen: máscaras faciales, protectores faciales transparentes y piel de cuello.
- Los revestimientos faciales deben limpiarse en casa todos los días.
- Se alienta a los padres a proporcionar a sus alumnos una cubierta facial que sea cómoda para ellos.
- Para ayudarlo, la escuela proporcionará a cada estudiante 2 máscaras faciales. Estos tienen nuestro logotipo, y son lavables y reutilizables. Estos serán proporcionados en la casa abierta el 17 de agosto.
- También se han comprado protectores faciales para coro y estudiantes de teatro.
Casilleros:
- Los casilleros serán asignados a los estudiantes. Los estudiantes no deben compartir casilleros.
- Los estudiantes también pueden usar una mochila cuando sea necesario. En muchos casos los casilleros pueden no ser necesarios para el uso de los estudiantes.
- Se asignarán casilleros a los estudiantes cerca de sus salones de clase POD.
Almuerzo:
- Para espaciar a los estudiantes durante el almuerzo, abriremos áreas adicionales para que los estudiantes coman. Estos incluirán el comedor, un área exterior (alentada) el escenario y el gimnasio en días con mal tiempo.
- Habrá señalización que ayudará a los estudiantes a identificar patrones de flujo, así como pautas de asientos.
- Los estudiantes también serán excusados de la clase en un horario escalonado para que las filas de almuerzo estén separadas.
Protocolos de oficina:
- Las excusas de los estudiantes deben hacerse por teléfono cuando sea posible. Los padres que deseen retirar a un estudiante temprano deben llamar a la oficina con anticipación.
- Los estudiantes que lleguen tarde a la escuela deben ser llamados por los padres para excusarse.
- Los padres que ingresen al edificio deben usar las puertas marcadas de entrada / salida de la oficina.
- Se les pedirá a los padres que esperen en el vestíbulo en lugar de en la oficina para recoger a los estudiantes.
Otros protocolos de distanciamiento físico:
- Se colocarán letreros y flechas en toda la escuela para ayudar a que el tráfico fluya durante los descansos de clase.
- Los estudiantes serán excusados por grado para rotar clases
- Las entradas y salidas designadas se utilizarán en las aulas cuando sea posible.
- Al menos durante el primer trimestre, no realizaremos grandes reuniones. Esto incluye ensamblajes.
- Tampoco tendremos tiempo de recreo o de reencuentro / enriquecimiento debido al horario diario acortado. (Consulte el correo electrónico del distrito con fecha 28/7/20)
- El almuerzo se ha extendido por 5 minutos para permitir filas escalonadas y un recreo informativo durante el día.
Saneamiento:
- Las aulas serán desinfectadas cada noche, el distrito ha comprado una máquina de "empañamiento" que se realizará en cada aula al final de cada día escolar.
- Se instalarán estaciones de desinfección de manos cerca de la puerta de cada salón de clases.
- Se realizarán limpiezas y desinfecciones frecuentes de los baños y otras áreas de alto tráfico.
- Se instalarán máquinas de llenado de botellas en los bebederos.
