While some of us parents have the time (and energy) to sit next to our children as they complete all the necessary at-home learning, some of us do not and therefore may need another way of checking in our student's work. One way that you can help support your student at home as a parent is to become an "observer" in Canvas. This allows you as a parent to track assignments on Canvas. An "observer" sees assignments and student progress for a student that they are "paired" with. Students can generate a code while logged into Canvas under their user settings. Every Monday, this group of Mt. Nebo faculty and staff meet together for our weekly Youth Support Meeting. This week, our meeting was a little different than it normally is because we used video conferencing instead of being in the Panther Den. Although our meeting space was different, what we worked together on was still the same: SUPPORTING STUDENTS! We want all of our students to know that we miss you and care about you. Dear Parent/Guardian:

Like you, we are just learning that Governor Gary R. Herbert, State Superintendent Syd Dickson, and the Utah State Board of Education “announced today that Utah’s K-12 public schools will extend their dismissal [soft closure] through Friday, May 1st.”  Their press release further stated that they will “continue to evaluate the situation to make a determination about the remaining school year” and that:

Gov. Herbert expressed his appreciation to the educators throughout our state who have quickly adapted their instruction to remote learning platforms. 

“These are unprecedented times in Utah’s and our nation’s history,” the governor said, “I have been overwhelmed with Utahns’ outpouring of support for one another, and nowhere has this been more evident than in the way our educators are supporting Utah students and families.”

Distance learning will continue during the extended dismissal for all K-12 public schools, where feasible…

“We recognize that being away from school creates additional work and stress for everyone in our communities; however, it is a necessary step in stopping the spread of COVID-19,” said State Superintendent Sydnee Dickson. “During the uncertainties of the coming weeks, it is more important than ever to remain socially connected with our students and families while doing our best to ensure learning continues. The flexibility and initiative of our educators is a shining example of how we rise together in challenging circumstances.”

Meal services at K-12 public schools will also continue on an as-needed basis.

Nebo School District teachers and staff remain committed to providing the learning structure and support that students and parents will require during these challenging times.  Our talented and dedicated professionals are so thankful to you students and parents for your tremendous efforts regarding at-home schooling.  Please remain in communication with your child’s teachers and contact the school with questions and concerns.

Canvas - Student Guide

Logging into Nebo Canvas Account

Your Nebo student Canvas account is connected to your student email (which is a Gmail account).  

1. To login to Canvas on a Chromebook

1. Login to the Chromebook with a student email address

2. Go to nebo.edu/students/Canvas (this should take you to your Canvas dashboard)

2. To login on other devices

1. First, login to your student email account

2. Make sure you are logged out of any other Gmail accounts

3. Go to https://canvas.nebo.edu/

Submitting assignments from Google Drive

1. When submitting or accessing Google Drive files make sure to login to your student email account and no other Gmail account. 

2. After clicking, “submit assignment”, select the Drive option icon (see image below).  This opens a window to your Drive and allows you to select a file to submit. Note: The first time you access your Google Drive you will need to authorize access (possibly several times).  

3. Don’t forget to submit the assignment in Canvas after selecting it in Google Drive. 

Nebo Online Access - Secondary Schools

For Parents

• All secondary teachers will use Canvas as a starting place -- some teachers will have their coursework in Canvas, while others will just link to it from Canvas.
• You can create a Canvas account, either online or through the Canvas Parent App for mobile devices, and track your students’ classwork for each class that is on Canvas. Use Nebo.instructure.com as the “school”.
• You will need a code to add each student, which can be obtained by your student, or from their teacher.

For Students

• You must first be logged into your school email account in order to access Canvas from home (or anywhere). Please log out of all google accounts except your Nebo account or there may be account conflicts.
• To access your Canvas account: After you are logged into your student email, go to www.nebo.edu and under the student tab select, “Canvas”.
• If you have a problem with a class, you should try to contact your teacher first.
