Savannah Stinson received the Mayor Youth Recognition Award at Payson City's October City Council Meeting

Savannah is a wonderful young woman attending our school. She is always happy and she is always willing to help others. She is the kind of person that just sees what needs to be done and she goes about doing it. It is an honor knowing her.

She is always willing to "lend a hand" and quickly steps in to help other students and teachers in the library.”

I have been fortunate to have had Savannah as a 7th grader and as a 9th grader, and I have never been less than impressed with her dedication, kindness, or academic ability.”

October 28^th - Monday: Crazy Hair / Solid Color Day

“We are crazy about being drug free and solid in our stance against the use of illegal drugs and violence.” 

Students are encouraged to wear a crazy hair style and/or dress in a solid color for the day. Hair styles must be completed at home before coming to school.    

October 29^th  - Tuesday: Nerd Day

Nerds are smart.  They don’t do drugs.  Be a nerd !!

Students are encouraged to dress as their favorite Nerd.  The world needs more nerds.      

October 30^th  - Wednesday: Meme/ Sports Day

“When the Drugs hit you hard.  You are focused on not dying” 

Team up against the use of illegal drugs and violence.

Students are encouraged to Dress as their favorite ‘Meme’ or to wear their favorite sports jersey and or cap.      

October 31^st -  Thursday: Super Hero / Favorite Costume Day

Be a ‘Super Hero’ in the fight against illegal drugs and violence.

Students are encouraged to Dress as their favorite Super Hero or wear their favorite costume to show unity and support against illegal drugs.  (No masks or excessive face painting are permitted) 

November 1^st - Friday: Dream Job / Hawaiian Day

 Aloha!     Take it easy on the beach and enjoy life.  Avoid the use of illegal drugs.  Stay away from illegal drugs and get your dream job! Drug use and work don’t mix!

Students are encouraged to Dress in Hawaiian attire or you may wear attire that represents your dream job, (Construction Worker, Teacher, Doctor, Pro Athlete, Nurse, Firefighter, School Counselor, etc.)

The staff of Mt. Nebo Junior High School are proud to announce a renewed commitment to ensuring that class time is used effectively and efficiently. In that spirit, we have adopted a new set of procedures that will begin the second term of school. We are calling these procedures: Operation START on Time!—the acronym stands for “Safe Transitions And Reduced Tardies.” This change is a result in part due to feedback from a recent student focus group. In that group, students expressed the need for a change in our current class transition policy that would enable them to get to class in a timely manner without needing to “push through crowds in the hallways.” We also feel that this change will make our school safer, due to increased hallway supervision, and allow us to maximize academic time in the classroom by minimizing distractions tardies cause teachers and fellow students.

On October 11th, Mt. Nebo hosted the district-wide final cross country meet and our athletes rocked it! The varsity boys team won the meet with Levi Lyman-5th, Brycen Asay-7th, Carson Taylor-10th, Payton Buys-11th, Bridger Marah-12th, David Bartholomew-13th, Gatley Nielson-20th, and Sam Morrill-35th. Our Varsity Girls team took 4th overall with Abby Kirby-9th, and Lily Potter, Rebekah Hartman, Aliceson Thomas, Kiera Cox, Taryn Wimmer, and Savannah Stinson on the team. The JV Boys team took 2nd. Team members: Ace Brown, Chance Lone, Quinn Potter, Gabe Barrowman, Riley Halley, Isaac Thurman, Sheldon Galbraith, Parker Cowley, Zack Stinson, Luke Lyman, Adriel Carroll, Brigham Lindstrom, Eldon Lyman, Calder Hunter, Mason Walton, and Ben Walton. The JV Girls team took 4th. Team members: Lizzy Lowe, Victoria Liddle, Anno Giboney, Annalize Johnson, Sophia Lester, Samantha Moore, Ava Pierre, Ellie Wilkerson, and Shange Rimirez. Thank you for the wonderful season!

Cody McFarland received the Mayor Youth Recognition Award at Payson City's September City Council Meeting.

We are honored to have Cody at our school. He is a friend to everyone and is always willing to help others. Here is what some teachers said about Cody:

“Cody is a kind, humble boy who thinks of others before himself. He is not afraid to try new things, and he is always willing to go out of his way to help others. He served on Spring Lake Hawk Squad and adults have entrusted him with many responsibilities that others would not want  or be qualified for. Last year he earned the Student of the Year award.  He is an honors student in both English and Math. He is new to our school and he is already very friendly and welcoming. Our librarian has already seen his value and trustworthiness and awarded him with a year-long library pass.”

"I've known Cody for about 2 weeks which may not seem like a lot, but he's made an impact on me.  Our class "get to know you" game was a literal game of Clue.  Students needed to gather information about their classmates and input it into a spreadsheet.  Cody organized his data not only with the written information but also included colors on his sheet.  He organized it in a completely unique way - - it gave me the opportunity to teach the class, using his spreadsheet as an example, that there can be multiple right ways to solve a problem."

It is time to schedule our 8th grade College and Career Readiness (CCR's) meetings! This is a time for you and your student to meet with their School Counselor and receive information to make plans for the future. Students are assigned by alphabet, but if your assigned counselor does not have an available slot open when you can meet, please pick any available counselor.

Each Appointment will last about 15-20 minutes. Please note that evening appointments are limited to Wednesday, October 23rd and Wednesday, October 30th. We look forward to meeting with you and your student!

Student leaders from Student Council, Jr. National Honors Society, Latinos in Action, and HOPE Squad participated in a leadership training with J. Lynn Jones to create and foster a positive school culture.
