Weekly Newsletter--8/22/18

Our 7th grade day and first day of school were both a success!  We are excited that this year is off to a great start!  Every Wednesday I will send out a school newsletter that will provide information about upcoming events, important reminders, and a link to your student’s SIS account as well as his/her lunch account balance.  In this week’s newsletter, I am including some important reminders for parents and students as we start off this school year.  Feel free to email me or call the school with any questions (801-465-6040).

 STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICKUP

The bus lanes are located in front of the school to the east.  Please keep these lanes clear for the buses.  The student pick up and drop off lane is located on the north side of the school. 

 STUDENT DRESS CODE

With all of our new students we have had many new inquiries into school dress codes and standards.  Recently, Nebo School District did approve hats to be worn in secondary schools.  The policy states “Students in secondary schools may wear hats and other head coverings. Notwithstanding the foregoing, hats and head coverings may not be worn in either elementary or secondary schools if doing so disrupts the educational environment, poses a danger to self or others, or limits the ability of others to identify the student.”

 Please also note that clothing must be modest. Modesty includes covering shoulders, midriff, back, underwear, and cleavage. Inappropriately short, tight, or revealing clothing is prohibited. Skirts, dresses, and shorts must be at least mid-thigh length when the student is sitting.  Pants or jeans with holes in them must not show skin above mid-thigh.  Jeans with holes above mid-thigh must have holes covered.

 PICTURE DAY

This year picture day is on Wednesday, August 29th.  Get your smiles ready! 

 SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL:

This year, we need to elect four parents to serve on our School Community Council.  Responsibilities of serving on this council include attending monthly meetings at Mt. Nebo (usually the first Monday of each month) from 3:30-4:30 p.m.  During this meeting you will help create our school improvement plan and help allocate Trust Lands funds.  If you are interested in serving on this council, please submit your name to melinda.barber [at] nebo.edu or call the school at 801-465-6040 by Friday, August 24th.  We will hold elections next week (8/27-8/31).  More information about elections to come.   

 SPORTS

-Cross Country:  Students interested in participating in cross country should see Mr. Marziale in the boys’ gym for more information.  Cross country starts next week!

 -Tennis:  The Mount Nebo Junior High Girls Tennis season is about to start! We will be having our first meeting next week right after school on Tuesday the 28th. If you are considering being a part of the girls tennis team, don't miss this meeting. We will be going over expectations of the season, the practice schedule, and the necessary paperwork. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Vincent (room 200) or Mrs. Wettstein (room 217).

 -Golf:  We’d like to welcome our new golf coach, Mr. Denison!  Mr. Denison is a certified golf instructor and we are excited to have him coaching our golf team this year!  If you are interested in trying out for the golf team, see Mr. Denison (room 103) or Mr. Powell (room 111) before or after school for more information. 

 CHOIR

Advanced choral auditions will be held Thursday, August 23rd after school in room 302.  Please sign up for an audition time on the sign up sheet posted on the door in room 302.  

 SHAKESPEARE TEAM AUDITIONS

Auditions for Mt. Nebo's Shakespeare Competition team are next Monday, August 27th, at 3:00 p.m. This team will take their competition pieces down to Cedar City and compete with other junior high schools at the end of September. If you are interested in auditioning, come by Mrs. Schofield's room, 301, to pick up an audition packet with more information!
