Picture retake day will be October 3rd.  The photographers will be here from 7:30-10:30 am.  However, if there are not many students or faculty needing pictures they may shut down early.  Please be at school as early as possible to avoid the possibility of not being able to have them taken.  If students are doing retakes, and you have purchased a picture packet, please have the student bring the previous pictures with them to school to exchange for the new ones.

If a student has NOT had their picture taken this year they need to have it done so their photo can be in the yearbook and they can receive a student ID card.  You have the option of still purchasing picture packets if you wish to do so.  You may prepay online at www.bellphoto.com using the online code: mtnebojrfall17 (code expires 10/5/17).  If you have any additional questions, you may contact Bell Photographers at 801-479-4624.

Jaren was nominated by Mrs. Reber for being a positive and enthusiastic influence in class.  Steven was nominated by Mrs. Miller for getting 100% on assignments, contributing to class discussions, and telling funny jokes.

Hear the ROAR! A Panther is: RESPECTFUL, OUTSTANDING, ACADEMIC and RESPONSIBLE! Congratulations to Branden Carter and Savanna Christensen for being nominated as our MNJHS Panthers of the Day on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. Branden was nominated by Mrs. Reber for being patient and kind while working with a partner.  Savanna was nominated by Mrs. Barker for having a positive attitude and always being on task in class.

Members of Student Council, Latinos in Action, Honors Society, and Hope Squad all participated in a Leadership Retreat Thursday, September 28, at Payson Kiwanis Park.  This retreat was designed to help the student leaders get to know each other, build leadership skills, enhance leader qualities, and see how individually they can better serve their peers and students at Mount Nebo Junior High.  We are lucky to have such an amazing group of student leaders at our school and we know they will do awesome things this school year!

Jaxon was nominated by Ms. Stewart for always trying and doing his best in class and on assignments.  Kella was nominated by Mrs. Wilson for being a good citizen and turning in lost money.

Hear the ROAR! A Panther is: RESPECTFUL, OUTSTANDING, ACADEMIC and RESPONSIBLE! Congratulations to Jonathan Perry and Anna Reed for being nominated as our MNJHS Panthers of the Day on Friday, September 22, 2017. Jonathan was nominated by Ms. Mathews for helping his peers with homework and being a positive role model. Anna was nominated by Ms. Stewart for always giving insightful comments and adding to class discussions.

Today, September 28th, from 3:30-8:00 p.m MNJHS will hold our first parent/teacher conferences in the gym. Midterm report cards will be handed out and parents and students are welcome to visit teachers during that time. Our Latinos in Action (LIA) students will be available to supervise children (ages 4-11) in the classroom across from the girls’ gym. These students have prepared activities for children and will also be showing Monster’s University and Despicable Me 2. In addition, former LIA students will be available to interpret for teachers and parents during parent/teacher conferences. We hope to see you there!

Hear the ROAR! A Panther is: RESPECTFUL, OUTSTANDING, ACADEMIC and RESPONSIBLE! Congratulations to Alexis Vasquez and LaShelle Hernandez for being nominated as our MNJHS Panthers of the Day on Thursday, September 21, 2017. Alexis was nominated by Mr. Rather for being respectful and trusting in class. LaShelle was also nominated by Mr. Rather for being fun to have in class and being respectful.

Several team captains represented  Mt Nebo's fall sports and student government at Nebo School District's Captain's Academy. Great job captains: Grace Marsh-cross country,  Richelle Nielsen-student government, Leah DeBart and Livy Chandler- girl's tennis, Max Iverson-golf, Hadley Mason-cross country.

The purpose of the Captains’ Academy is to promote sportsmanship between the schools. This goal is realized through the captains and leaders working together at the academy to promote better relations between the students and athletes, to develop leadership through the academy activities, and to develop relationships with coaches and administrators as they present at each academy.

Michelle Best, with Intermountain Healthcare, talked with the leaders about healthy lifestyles and especially how important sleep is in staying healthy. Athletes are more prone to health issues an anxiety because of lack of sleep.

Brodie Berg, a 1990 Oregon State High School Golf Champion and currently a firefighter, led a discussion about great leaders. He emphasized that great leaders have character. Talent is a gift but character is a choice. Brodie also mentioned that great leaders are competent, accomplish more than others, inspire others, are generous, build relationships, take responsibility, and have passion to name a few attitributes.

ABC 4 sports director, Wes Ruff, introduced Sportsmanship. Wesley grew up in Springville and enjoys golf. His message included the importance of character, attitude, and having pride in your team.

Steve Dudley, athletic director at Spanish Fork High, led a discussion on sportsmanship and reporting. The various sports captains took the word “sportsmanship” and came up with descriptors for each letter and reported back to the group.

Troy Bohling, student services coordinator and organizer of these academies, said, "Captains’ Academy has provided a powerful forum for athletes and school leaders to discuss and implement essential leadership traits and the value of great sportsmanship as well as how to be safe and avoid unnecessary injuries."

A big thank you to Laura Salazar, Communications Director at Intermountain Healthcare, for the delicious lunch provided for the captains and leaders.
