Yesterday was our annual faculty vs student basketball game. The intramural team winners play the faculty and staff each year and it is always a pretty tough battle. This year, the age and fatigue of the teachers just couldn't match up with the talented basketball players we have this year. It was a good game but the final score was 43-42 with the students taking the win! 

In Mrs. Miller's Teen Living class, students were studying dating and etiquette.  Many teens stress a lot about dating and dining out.  Beverly Stone, the head server at La Caille, came first semester and taught a lesson on dining etiquette and extended an invitation to practice applying their new knowledge at one of the most elegant restaurants in Utah, La Caille.  The menu included: Escargot, raspberry sorbet, fresh green salad with shaved parmesan and champagne vinaigrette dressing, grilled chicken with spring vegetables, country dinner rolls, crepes maison for dessert and lemonade to drink.

Students had the opportunity to practice dining etiquette in an environment free of the stress of dating.  We discussed as well the fact that business is often conducted over a meal, including interviews.  Etiquette is free. It includes putting people at ease who may feel unprepared - the three phrases/words used most "Excuse me" "Please" and "Thank you" when applied help any situation.  

This experience has allowed students to feel capable of presenting themselves well in any circumstance.

We had our 2nd annual volleball game yesterday. The winners of this years intramurals team faced off against the faculty of Mt. Nebo. They all played hard but the faculty pulled off the win!

This week we held our annual Awards Assembly to celebrate all of our hard working students! Students were recognized for their high achievements with their grades as well as leadership and good attendance. The following are just some of the awards our students earned:

7th Grade 4.0 all year: Jessa Asay, Briana Bartholomew, Samuel Devenport, Bryant Giles, Michael Green, Korinne Huntington, Gabe Jockumsen, Kiera Nelson, Remington Seamons, Katie Solorzano and Lauren Voran.

Each year our faculty and staff nominate some "Terrific Kids" in our school. These students are hard workers, kind to others and all around great examples of excellent citizenship. They were honored at this year's awards assembly held on Wednesday, May 20th. This years Terrific Kids are:

Our 9th grade clothing students have been working hard this year. This is a basic introductory course where students are introduced to sewing and pressing equipment, textiles and introductory level projects. Charley Griffin and Hailey Burr are showing off their good work!

MNJHS has become a Utah Scholars school this year! The Utah Scholars Initiative is an academic program intended to motivate students to complete a defined curriculum while in high school to better prepare them for college and future employment. The focus is on helping students understand the academic preparation needed to succeed in post-secondary education and the workforce. 

All of our 8th grade students heard about Utah Scholars last Thursday. Presentations were given by parent volunteers during the US History classes. Our volunteers talk to students about why to go to college, what they can do now to prepare for college, and how to pay for it.
